Since February 1st, 2017, Vietnam has been applying e-visa - a new form of visa approved by Vietnam National Assembly in November, 2016 – for citizens of 40 countries with single-entry and maximum 30-day stay.

What is Vietnam e-visa?

You are normally familiar with the term Vietnam visa, which is a kind of visa granted by Vietnamese competent agencies and allows the visa holders to enter Vietnam.”

E-visa (electronic visa) is another form of visa granted by the Immigration Department of Vietnam via electronic system. It is valid for maximum 30 days and single entry only.

How to apply for Vietnam e-visa?

Citizens of 40 countries including China, Japan, South Korea, the UK,the US, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Cuba and the main target markets of Vietnam tourism (see full list at vnexpress.net) may enjoy the advantages of e-visa from February 1st, 2017.

To apply for Vietnam e-visa, you will be required to fill in a form online . There are two websites which provide this service: Xuatnhapcanh and Immigration respectively using Vietnamese and English language. You may choose to complete the form on one of the two websites run by the Ministry of Public Security.

After completing the form, you will receive an application code and you must pay the fee online via an electronic payment gateway prescribed by the Immigration Department of Vietnam.

The applicants have to wait for a pending time of three working days to get the response whether your application was accepted or not.  

If your application is approved, you may print your e-visa and use it for you entry in Vietnam.

Notes for e-visa holders:

- The fee will not be refunded even if your application is refused for any reasons.

- With Vietnam e-visa, you are allowed to stay in Vietnam for no more than 30 days, and single entry only. Therefore, if you wish to stay in Vietnam for longer time, or for some reasons, you need to travel to Vietnam frequently, e-visa is not an ideal choice for you.

- As Vietnam e-visa is another form of Vietnam visa, its function is not unlike a normal visa. Vietnam e-visa holders must still bring along a valid passport; and of course not be in entry ban list.
