In the Southwest Vietnam, the canal system is complex; people’s life is associated with rivers, orchards, and mangroves. With these features, floating market is a unique form of daily activities of the people in the Southwest Vietnam. 

Cai Rang floating market (Can Tho)

Fruits are main items sold at floating markets

It takes about 30 minutes to go from Ninh Kieu port to Cai Rang floating market on a motorboat. Riding a motorboat in the early morning is what almost every visitor wishes to do when coming to this place. Cai Rang floating market opens from 5:00 am to 9:00 am. The main items are agricultural products, fruits, food and other goods needed in daily life. This is a cultural feature of Mekong River Delta, which attracts  people from international world to come and discover. 

Cai Be floating market (Tien Giang)

Situated in Cai Be town, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province, Cai Be floating market is at the part of Tien Giang river that is adjacent to three provinces: Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Ben Tre. This is one of the largest wholesale markets in the Southwest Vietnam where selling and buying activities take place exaltedly. The kinds of goods are various from household utensils to drinks, poultry and seafood. It is the most famous as a large “fruit basket” of Tien Giang. Some typical kinds of fruit in Tien Giang: Lo Ren milk fruit, green grapefruit, Tan Lap pineapple, Cai Be orange, grapefruit and tangerine.

Nga Bay floating market (Hau Giang)

Nga Bay floating market or Phung Hiep floating market, which is located in Nga Bay village, has been formed since 1915. It is a famous floating market in Hau Giang province, known as not only the place where buying and selling activities of the residents in Mekong River Delta occur but also a tourist attraction.

Coming there, visitors will see the attractive color of fresh fruits, vegetables, and home appliances in the region. In addition, rambutan, mangosteen and durian are the delicious fruits that you should not forget to try when coming there.

There is a special thing at Nga Bay floating market: snakes. Phung Hiep market sells snakes, birds, tortoises, squirrels and lemurs around the year. You can also find special dishes of the Southwest there such as: banh cuon, pho, banh xeo.

Nga Nam floating market (Soc Trang)

Nga Nam floating market is located in district 1, Nga Nam town, Soc Trang province. It is the intersection of five rivers which have different directions: Ca Mau, Vinh Quoi, Long My, Thanh Tri and Phung Hiep. It is therefore the place for boats to moor while waiting to receive goods from traders who come from many regions. The market is always crowded, bustling and busy.

Long Xuyen floating markets (An Giang)

Long Xuyen floating markets are situated on Hau river, in the area of My Phuoc ward, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province. This place is home to hundreds of boats anchored on the river. People live, sell and buy goods all year round on their boats. The main goods that they trade are vegetables such as melons, tomatoes, squash, potato, and An Giang famous snacks such as bun ca and banh tam.
