Cases that a foreigner gets an entry ban in Vietnam

Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam is one of thirteen Laws and Decrees passed by the Thirteenth National Assembly in the seventh meeting. The law consists of 9 chapters and 55 articles.
According to the provisions of the law on entry, exit, transit and residence, foreigners' entry, exit, transit and residence will be facilitated so that they can enjoy their trip to Vietnam for tourism, study, or business collaboration purposes; and along with that, the facilitation also needs to meet the requirements for national security, social order and social safety.
The law clearly states that visas granted to foreign labors working in Vietnam have the maximum permit term of 2 years; visas granted to foreigners who come to Vietnam for investment or foreign lawyers working in Vietnam have the maximum permit term of 5 years. The law also increases the maximum permit term of temporary residence card from 3 years to 5 years.
The law “tightens” entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam but still complies with relevant Vietnam law and international treaties involving Vietnam.
Cases in which a foreigner’s entry is denied:
- Children under 14 years old without parents, authorized custodians or guardians;
- Forging papers or providing false information in order to be granted valid entry/exit/residence permit;
- Persons who suffer from mental or infectious diseases which may threaten the public health;
- Persons who was deported from Vietnam with the last 3 years;
- Persons who was compelled to leave Vietnam within the last 6 months;
- For the reasons of epidemic prevention;
- For the reasons of natural disasters;
- For the reasons of national defense, national security, social order and social safety.
The law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam takes effects on January 1st, 2015.
