7 Things to remember when visiting Ganh Da Dia

Together with Ireland, Spain and Scotland, Ganh Da Dia (The Cliff of Stone Plates) of Phu Yen (Vietnam) is considered as one of the most amazing natural phenomena. Long ago, the nature created and stacked large stone plates on the beach. Thousands year have passed leaving the cliff of stone plates lapped by ocean waves continuously,  which is such a stunning scenery. This special scenic site of Phu Yen can make every tourist surprised when they see it with their own eyes.

1. The way to Ganh Da Dia

Ganh Da Dia, like a giant honeycomb on the beach, is located in An Dong village, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province and is about 40 kilometers from Tuy Hoa city.

If starting off from the city, tourists may go along national route 1A to the north for about 30 kilometers, pass Chi Thanh town, then turn to the right and keep going for 12 kilometers to East Sea to reach Ganh Da Dia.

If you love to experience winds of the sea and watch peaceful scenery of Vietnam’s central land, you can go along Tuy Hoa coastline for about 35 kilometers to admire Ganh Da Dia.

2. Best time to admire Ganh Da Dia

Ganh Da Dia was formed during the volcanic eruption. When the extremely hot lava is released out of the earth, it is cooled and at the same time, contraction occurred, creating horizontal stone plates. These plates look like they are sequentially pushed out of the ground, shaping into stone pillars. Ganh Da Dia  is like an immovable monument that can satisfy the curiousity of any tourists.

Any time in the year is all perfect to admire the beauty of Ganh Da Dia. From sunrise to sunset, it always brings the feeling of a poetic, unspoiled and wild beauty at the same time. However, people should avoid the storm season from August to November if they plan on having a trip to this place.

In the early February and August 10^th (lunar calendar) every year, Tuy An fishermen in particular and Phu Yen fishermen in general organize a rain praying ceremony to finish as well as start a new fishing season. If tourists go to Ganh Da Dia at this time, they not only can enjoy the beauty of this natural wonder but also can experience the festive atmosphere of the most important festival in this coastal land.

3. Where to stay?

In this place, accommodation costs are quite affordable and suitable for common demand of tourists. For travelling convenience, tourists may make a reservation at hotels or guesthouses in the central of Tuy Hoa city for example, Cendeluxe Tuy Hoa (no. 2 Hai Duong street), Kaya 4 stars (no. 238 Hung Vuong Avenue), medium class hotels such as An Phat (no. 35 Le Loi), Nhiet Doi (no. 216 Nguyen Hue).

If you love wild nature and you want to be completely immersed into the narural world, you can choose to sleep outside in a tent on Bai Bang, near Ganh Da Dia, to have a wonderful experience.

4. Ganh Da Dia and interesting destinations around

 From high above, Ganh Da Dia looks like a giant honeycomb silently beside the sea. When coming closer and walking down, you will see the stone plates leading to a deep cave where thousands of waves sing their songs with their friends – rocks through days and nights.

Looking farther, you can see Bai Bang, where huge stones lying peacefully under terminalia catappas foliage. This is an ideal place for people to go camping, take a rest and enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the sea village of central Vietnam.

The lighthouse Ganh Den is not far way from Bai Bang. Although it is not as bright and its architecture is not as outstanding as the lighthouse Dai Lanh, this place is ideal for sightseeing. From this, tourists can have a whole view of the coastal land and feel relaxed with gentle breezes.

On the way back the city along national route 1A, tourists may stop by the most ancient church in Vietnam – Mang Lang church, built 120 years ago. It is one of the most notable Catholic buildings with  Gothic architecture and a large campus of 5000 square meters.

5.  Local seafood

 Tourists should bring some food or snacks when visiting Ganh Da Dia because there are only a few dining and resting services here. Or you may want to go to Bai Bang to enjoy fresh seafood with reasonable prices such as: O Loan oysters, tuna, Cu Mong swamp’s crabs, jellyfish salad.

Some specialities of Phu Yen can all be found in Tuy Hoa city: Hoa Da rice paper, cha dong (meat of “dông”-kind of sea animal, being grilled and chopped and wrapped, then being deep dried), Tuy Hoa tune’s eyes hotpot (Lẩu "đèn pha").

6. Souvenirs to bring home

At Ganh Da Dia, there are numerous and various souvenirs to bring home for your friends and family: products made from coral and seashells such as eye-catching keychains and wind chimes, or ingenious mosaics showing the beauty of Phu Yen.

In addition, tourists may be attracted by local special snacks like jerky, air-dried venison, dried tuna, Hoa Da rice paper, nem chua Phu Yen, malva nuts.

7. Things to notice when visiting Ganh Da Dia

Not only Ganh Da Dia, whereever you travel, you need to bring along all necessary personal stuff, especially sunscreen, wide-brimmed hat and medications. Remember to put on a life-jacket when swimming at the beach or joining water activities.

Avoid travelling in storm and rainny season from August to November (lunar calendar) because the roads are slippery, making it difficult for vehicles to move safely.
